Harvest 2010 ![]() Another harvest is in the winery, another year’s experience acquired, tons of works and some more grey hairs, but a tremendous sense of satisfaction as well. The growing season was delayed due to a cold and wet spring that brought on a late flowering of almost 15 days. The sunny dry summer was followed by a beautiful month of September with cool nights that gave the ripened grapes lots of color while conserving good levels of acidity. Between the spring rains and the sporadic showers of September the grapes were assured a decent hydrique level that permitted their complete ripening. The whites and rosés are marvellously fresh and aromatic and although a lot of the reds are still under marc, the tannic structures are velvetly and the wines will be able to be enjoyed young. The old myth that « the vines must suffer in order to make good wines » is once again proven wrong. Over the past 5 harvests, 2 of the most beautiful vintages (2007 and most probably 2010) have benefited from significant rainfall during the growing season, limiting the vines’ hydrique stress. These observations feed a parallel that I often make between man and plants. In order to give our best, we need a balanced diet that maintains our ideal weight. We can’t optimize our performance with draconian diets, dehydration or excessive alimentation. It’s just a matter of common sense. The moderation that is currently extolled in all our food and beverage ad campaigns applies elsewhere in the living world. Surprising, isn’t it? Nîmes Toquée Sunday, November 28th. A tasting circuit, visiting the cultural patrimony of Nîmes. The winemakers of Costieres de Nîmes collaborate with five top restaurants of Nîmes (Aux Plaisirs des Halles, Le Darling, Le Lisita, L’Im prévu et The Wine Bar) to offer a luncheon served at six cultural monuments of our city.
